How We Make Money

Canadian Money Guide participates in affiliate marketing programs. This means that when you click on certain links on our site and take an action (such as opening an account, applying for a credit card, or completing a money transfer), we may earn a commission — at no additional cost to you.

These commissions are how we fund our research and keep our content free for everyone.

Our Commitment to You

We never let affiliate relationships influence our recommendations. Every product we compare is evaluated against the same criteria: publicly available rates, fees, features, and user feedback. A product doesn't rank higher because it pays a higher commission, and we don't exclude products that don't pay commissions.

In practice, this means:

"When you click this link and open an account, we may earn a commission. This does not affect the price you pay or our editorial assessment."

Affiliate Partners

We work with the following affiliate partners and networks:

PartnerProducts CoveredRelationship
RatehubMortgage rates, savings accounts, credit cards, loans, insuranceAffiliate
Fintel ConnectDirect bank offers (Scotiabank, LoanConnect, and others)Affiliate network
WiseInternational money transfers, multi-currency accountsAffiliate

This list is updated whenever we add or remove an affiliate partner.

When you see a product link with a disclosure label, here's exactly what happens:

  1. You click the link and go to the partner's website
  2. A tracking cookie is placed in your browser (usually valid for 30-90 days)
  3. If you complete a qualifying action (e.g., open an account, complete a transfer), the partner records the conversion
  4. Canadian Money Guide receives a commission from the partner
  5. You pay the same as if you had gone directly to the partner's website

Why Affiliate Marketing?

We chose affiliate marketing over other monetization models (ads, subscriptions, sponsored content) for a specific reason: it aligns our incentives with yours. Banner ads pay per view regardless of whether the product helps you. Subscription paywalls lock content behind a login. Sponsored posts mean the sponsor controls the message.

With affiliate marketing, we only earn when you take an action — and you only take that action when you've decided the product is right for you. If our research is wrong or our recommendations mislead you, you won't open the account, and we won't get paid. That's not a perfect alignment, but it's better than the alternatives.

We also choose this model because it keeps our content free for every Canadian who needs it — including those who can't afford a subscription and those who never click an affiliate link.
